The annual Open Day, where school children, beginner and social bridge players can get together to play bridge under supervision in a friendly atmosphere, took place in the bowls clubhouse at the Western Province Cricket Club on Sunday 8th September.
There were approximately 20 children from schools in Bonteheuwel with teachers to assist them, as well as a section of 26 adults. There was a lavish tea for all and the afternoon concluded with gifts for the children and prizes for the pairs who came 1st and 2nd in the adult section. Congratulations to Meryl and Derek Kreuger for achieving 1st place in the tournament; and to Nadine Pincus and Caryn Querido for 2nd place. We hope to have many rising bridge players from the groups of children and adults!
Duncan Keet, Imtiaz Kaprey and Stephen McBride are training teachers as part of the sponsorship from the WCBU to introduce bridge into schools in the Bonteheuwel area. They liaised with the schools and organised the attendance of the school children and teachers at Open Day. The President of the Western Cape Provincial Sports Confederation, J P Naude, attended the event as well as the President of the WCBU, Glen Holman.
A sincere "thank you" to Kitty Cruise who coordinates and organises this event each year, as well as to all the volunteers who assisted on the day.
